Dr. John Holz

Holz, John InstillDr. Holz has over 25 years of experience in limnology/water quality management and research. While earning his Ph.D., and then as a professor at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Dr. Holz’s research advanced our understanding of unique water resource issues and developed improved management tools for lakes, streams and watersheds. Specific areas of expertise include lake restoration and management, watershed management, phytoplankton ecology, aquatic vegetation ecology, fisheries management, lake sediment chemistry, nutrient inactivation, water quality monitoring, water quality modeling and internal phosphorus loading. Dr. Holz was recognized for these advancements by the North American Lake Management Society when he received their Technical Excellence Award in recognition for Outstanding Research in Lake Restoration, Protection and Management.

Dr. Holz has obtained $7.95 million in funding to support water quality research throughout his career, authored over 20 research publications, and taught university courses in Limnology and Lake and Reservoir Management. He is a recognized leader in the water quality/aquatic habitat management and has served as a technical advisor to the U.S. EPA on water quality management issues (e.g., lake/stream classification, nutrient criteria, realistic water quality goals, incorporating internal nutrient loading into management scenarios) throughout the Midwest.

This extensive and broad experience base includes nearly all aspects of team building, goal setting, project management, traditional and electronic/social media promotion, website development, education, community outreach and client coordination. As a planner and coordinator, Catherine has excelled in helping project team members and stakeholders achieve consensus, build project support, identify issues, grow support for solutions, attract project funding, and facilitate the adoption of plans. The development of a shared project mission, along with a motivating approach, has been behind the success of her projects.
